Therapeutic Grounding

Theoretical beliefs - I am a deeply hopeful person who sees the ways in which the world is set up to fail us by the systems and culture we exist in. Systems that were designed to serve capitalism, white supremacy, individualism, and other harmful ideologies cause dis-ease within us. I will not provide mental health care that ignores the limits of the therapy session, including the intersection of where mental health care is embedded in the systems and cultures that do harm.

Existential Phenomenology - The feeling of this philosophy connected with me before I ever consistently learned the pronunciation. This provided my foundation of practice centered on the therapeutic relationship, how we make meaning of the world around us, and reflection. It provided me with a theoretical grounding of psychology, philosophy, and the humanities.

Play Therapy - The Association of Play Therapy (APT) defines play therapy as "the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development." By way of experience, play therapy sessions are time and space for children/teens/youth to process, create understanding, and make meaning of the world around them using their natural language (play).
