disney

A break in the usual feed aesthetic to share about the wonderful folks at Disney who invited me into HQ to share their ongoing work!

I often think about little Sydney, and what she would actually think and feel about what’s happening now to us. How growing up so close to Disneyland meant fireworks, and churros (Disneyland churros can’t be beat, a hill I will die on), and favorite rides, and meeting characters, and birthday stickers and Mickey ice creams. How in 8th grade, one of my first free choice topic essays, I analyzed the physical attributes Disney gives their villains. (How anyone ever thought I wouldn’t go into the world of psychology is beyond me). How my first published academic paper on Disney’s Encanto ended up in the hands of Disney comms people (via the wonderful article at the Times) and promoted this meeting. A chain of events that I simply don’t know what to do with at present except feel the wonder. (see what I did there) Y

ou never quite know who is behind the curtain and to meet women yesterday who are dedicated to their responsibilities of supporting children’s wellbeing in such thoughtful and intentional and invested ways was beautiful. A reminder that magic is in relationships, is in the environment you bring folks into, is the excitement to share what you know and where you want to go in the future. Also great moments of play and laughter and dreaming together.

And although this started way before Mirabel, I am intrinsically intertwined with her story, and couldn’t be any happier to have found my way to Disney through her truth and healing. I have a feeling the magic doesn’t end here.
